Mission Statement

Our mission is to create a food cooperative, which will be owned and patronized by people in the local community. This co-op will be less expensive then it's capitalistic competitors because it will be driven from the energy that the community will put into it. The membership of the co-op will make it their own. It will be a place of learning, of community, and of communication, a place where all are welcome and shall feel at home.

The co-op will help the members in every way possible. It will facilitate the adoption of a healthy lifestyle by teaching about nutrition and about how certain foods (such as genetically modified foods, non-organic produce, etc.) influence the individual's health. Education shall be available about all the issues that face the food consumer.

Goods that benefit from the suffering and exploitation of human beings, animals, or of the environment will have no place in the co-op. Aside from this guideline, the co-op shall carry whatever foods the membership desires, but will encourage those items that naturally promote and maintain health.

The environmental impact of the co-op shall be kept to an absolute minimum. The co-op should not stock items with exorbitant packaging, and will strive to carry as many items in bulk as is possible.

Goods will be bought as close to the source as possible. New channels of distribution should be created to allow the elimination of the middleman, allowing direct support of the small family farm and locally owned business.
